Equippers church asked me to create a series of mini-documentaries where people talked about how their faith helped them deal with challenges in their life.
This was a charity project and I did it in return for a donation toGrassroots. We had filmed something similar a decade before, interviewing former drug addicts in Tenerife about the changes that had since occurred in their lives and although these were largely people in entirely different circumstances it is always encouraging to talk to people on camera about the remarkable ways that their faith and belief in God’s intervention had led to such change in their worlds, sometimes in dramatic and difficult circumstances.
I shot, often single handed, with two 4k log cameras and really pushed the limits of what I would usually do on a commercial film, feeling the freedom to tell a story as I saw it without needed to match a corporate style. It was refreshing to bend the rules, go commando using only natural light and emulate the great run-and-gun documentary makers.
