In 2008 we filmed on the derelict Battersea site on behalf of Samsung who had brokered a deal with a foreign investor to develop a high tech residential space full of flat screen TVs and exciting future tech. At the time the place was a bit of a wasteland.
Needless to say, that and many other deals fell through but eventually foreign money arrived and up has sprung an amazing new town, complete with its own underground station and and many iconic new builds to compliment the beautifully restored main building with it’s 4 towers, each removed and replaced to be better than new.
Long term client Careys sent me to shoot the paving and groundworks they have done. I chose an early Saturday in spring with fabulous clear light and not much traffic and spent half a day wandering about shooting everything I could see. As the people emerged I could do the same earlier deserted scenes with people.
It takes time to see the shot, get it exactly right and then wait for the people and the light to co-operate. I really enjoyed the shoot and think there pictures reflect the new modern world of 2022 Battersea.
