In the last century I started out on my selected career at Salesian school in Chertsey. From age 14, despite being a keen photographer at that age, I set sights on being a metalwork teacher – all the tools and not much marking. The subject evolved whilst I was training and I ended up working at Salesian, a catholic school run by the Salesian religious order, as a graphics teacher and we had a lot of fun and success there from 1987 to 1997 when BorehamMedia really took off.
Because of my 10 years at the chalkface (now the interactivewhiteboardface) it gained me lots of work shooting school prospectii and Salesian still use me for that each year. It is such a huge honour I get visit a place that has massively grown and evolved due to the remarkable skills of the head on whom the governors took a punt in 2007 – he was very young!
Leadership is a dimension as important as width or time and James Kibble exuded that in an extraordinary way, dragging 200 staff and over the years, 17000 students into a better, fuller place. I have learnt much from him and fall well short of his standards. But I have the best day of the year when I visit the Alma Mater and get shots of students having the best days of their lives.
